What can we say? an absolutely beautifully restored gite. The photos don't portray it's full beauty! A welcome pack of more than enough essentials and a very hospitable, helpful couple to meet you. We arrived with a few hire car problems, Ian and Linda soon ironed them out. They certainly went out of their way to help us with their knowledge, generosity and kindness. We highly recommend anyone looking for a very clean, comfortable and relaxing holiday with or without children, it's great!! You need a car as it's in a country area. However, it's nearby many towns, an excellent base for touring the South and Western areas of France. The swimming pool is enclosed, safely keeping the children amused for hours. We will be returning to this gite again as soon as we can the tranquillity and sunshine was just what we needed!

A Great Base

La Petite Grange is the ideal gîte to rent for anyone needing a base for house hunting or just wanting to relax in a peaceful environment. Eight years ago when they arrived, the owners Ian and Linda found three sheep living in what is now the bedroom. Since then, they have renovated the little barn to a high standard, so that it retains its original lofty ceiling and rafters and the soft cream-coloured stone walls that are typical of the region, while adding the essential comforts: well-equipped kitchen (with whistling kettle), wood-burning stove and attractive bathroom. The property is beautifully maintained and sparkling clean. It was still winter when I visited, too early to see the fruit trees that border the large garden in bloom or to use the swimming pool. But I will definitely be returning to do so, and to renew acquaintance with Ian and Linda, who could not have been more welcoming and helpful with their suggestions, translations and practical support.

Le Grand Bois est superbe.

When you think of a holiday in France you have an image of superb food and even better wines and then the reality of finding suitable accommdation sets in.

Big cities are not really a holiday if you already live in a big city in your home country - so you plan to head for the countryside and wonder what sort of accommodation is available - no Ritz or Hilton in the countryside - maybe some small hotel/motel with one or two star rating. Even at home these small motels area hit and miss afair. What about a B&B, they can be good sometimes. Then someone suggests a "gite". Never heard of one of those - something like a "cottage" maybe? Oh why not, we'll give it a go...

We have travelled throughout England, Wales, USA, Southern Africa and New Zealand and have never found anything as good as Le Grand Bois in the tiny village of Angeduc.    Not only has the property been beautifully renovated by a brilliant Achitect, the owners, Ian and Linda would have to be the best hosts we have ever met anywhere in the countries in which we have travelled.  There is a welcoming bottle of Bordeaux wine placed in the gite to set the mood for a great holiday. And it doesn't stop there - everything you need to make you comfortable is thoughtfully included.

With accommodation way beyond expectations the rest is up to you - we travelled throughout the Charente area, usually full day outings and returned to the gite with local produce and wine for a great evenings fare.

Despite a 23 hour flight for us to travel to France from Australia, we will be back at Le Grand Bois for our next holiday, this time with all our family (12 people altogether - three generations) and we will be looking forward to once again catching up with Ian and Linda and enjoying another bottle of wine or two.

Oh! did I mention the wine???

What can I say ....a lovely property in a beautiful rural location with all amenities to hand. Beautufully restored and very well equipped the gite was perfect for the two of us. The pool is gorgeous, very well looked after and is shared with the adjoining gite. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and the local markets well worth a visit. The owners were fantastic and were able to give advice, directions to places and were on hand to help us out during a memorable holiday going beyond the remit of gite owner !! I would certainly recommend the hospitality shown to us by both Linda and Ian.

Very lovely setting, tastefully restored. Comfortable interior, well equipped and laid out. The owners are very hospitable and are available to give directions, tips and ideas to make your stay enjoyable. Ideal if you like peace & quiet. Sited very rurally, lots of wildlife to admire and the tranquil Charente countryside. Great place to be based for exploring Southwestern France. Would recommend this gite to family & friends.

We had agreed as a family that we'd like to go away together as part of my "significant" birthday celebrations. I booked Le Grand Bois and we were delighted to find a beautiful, well equipped and very well maintained traditional property in a huge, very child friendly garden with walled and gated pool. Linda & Ian, the owners, made us very welcome and made sure that we felt we could contact them at any time during our stay with any queries whatsoever. In Fact, one of our party did need to attend A&E and Linda very kindly went along to ensure our lack of detailed French didn't cause difficulties in communications - that made such a difference and gave us the confidence to know that the problem had been thoroughly investigated and treated.

14 of us aged from 6 weeks to 62 years and we had the space and comfort to enjoy our holiday as we each wished. A lovely area for walking and only a short drive to towns and shops. Very well placed for good days out to places like Cognac, Brantome etc with their historic centres and wide variety of restaurants.

We had a wonderful holiday and would heartily recommend Le Grand Bois.

La Petite Grange is a very tastefully renovated and well equipped Gite. Lovelly warm welcome was given by the owners who couldn't have been more helpful especially when our luggage was lost at the airport! The welcome foodpack was excellent as were the evening meals prepared by Ian and Linda!

Gite at Le Grand Bois 56213

We stayed here in the Gite for 2 weeks in Summer 2007 and could not have been more pleased. The only thing that they could not do for us was change the weather, but this was not under their control. They even accommodated last minute change in travel arrangements. It Is a good area to explore or house hunt, if that's what you want to do, location and accommodation perfect, owners delightful. There is nothing more to say!

Thank you to our very kind and helpful hosts who made sure that we were happy and had all required for a happy, relaxing stay. Loved the house, loved the garden, loved the pool ! Leclerc and restaurants in Barbezieux were grat. Enjoyed kayaking in Aubeterre - Do book ! Angouleme is well worth a visit - murals on walls made it even more interesting. Chalais market was very busy and lacked places to eat. Found and used tennis court nearby. We wish Linda and Ian every success for their business venture and hope they can enjoy what they have created here in Angeduc. Thank you !

Fantastic gite in beautiful grounds. The swimming pool was in constant use, and was kept spotless. In over 30 years of "giting", these are the best we have ever found - elegant, comfortable, clean and with immaculate attention to detail. The Jewel in the Crown ! Ian and Linda are the perfect hosts, warm, gracious, outgoing and ever ready to help and advise. Many, many thatnks for a magical holiday (and 40th celebration!) We even forgive the first weeks' unseasonable weather!!

Had a fabulous time in a beautiful, spacious gite. Plenty of BBQs and wine in the sunshine. Linda and Ian are perfect hosts. There when you need them and disappearing into the background when you don't. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful setting and the sunflowers! We will be back, I'm sure.

This is a beautiful location! It's very peaceful, but there is plenty to do if just relaxing by the pool gets too much for you! Linda and Ian are the perfect hosts - nothing is too much trouble for them. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Your response: It was great to meet you and your family and we look forward to receiving news of the new arrival!. Hope to see you all again soon!

This is an outstanding property set in a quiet area surrounded by vineyards.Nothing is too much trouble for Ian and Linda, the kind and friendly owners. The gite is well equipped with good quality appliances and furnishings The swimming pool is lovely, making it tempting to never leave the gite, and benefits from a bowl design, rather than a shallow and deep end making it safer for children of all ages. Thank you Ian and Linda for your exceptional welcome, care and kindness!

Your response: Thank you Chris for the great review. It was good to meet you and your family and we look forward to seeing you here again in the not too distant future.(Hope that the plant cuttings survive!) with Best Wishes, Linda and Ian

Excellent gite, attention to detail and hospitaility.”

Lovely gite, very well equipped with super swimming pool and grounds. The hosts, Lynda and Ian, were very welcoming and helpful but not intrusive. The attention to detail was excellent with great care being taken to provide a welcoming home from home. The gite was well equipped and spotlessly clean. Lynda and Ian clearly put a great deal of thought into providing their guests with the best holiday. A great welcoming pack with all the essentials (including wine) was provided. The area is lovely with great places to visit for children and adults. We had a fabulous holiday and would not hesitate to return.

Lovely built properties with character in an attractive peaceful country setting. The property had everything that one would expect and more. The owners thought of every detail. Even has English TV as well as French. The owners, Ian and Lynda go out of their way to be helpful yet are unobtrusive. Certainly if you require advice on what to do or where to visit then just ask them. It was a pleasure meeting them. This is not a place to stay without a car and it is too far to walk to the local villages/town to have a drink.
